Coastal Cooler
Our wine-country spritz: Central Coast rosé, soda, local fruit, and herb. Light, fizzy, and low-proof for people who skip the heavy cocktail.
The wine cooler was born on California beaches, white wine plus fruit plus soda, and the Coastal Cooler is our rebuild of it. A Central Coast rosé or white, a little local fruit, soda, and herb: light, fizzy, and low enough in proof that nobody has to tap out at midday.
It is the bar shelf's answer for people who find the sangria too rich and the Bloody Maria too savory. Pale, bright, and barely sweet, it ties straight to Central Coast wine country and gives the lightweight crowd a real pour of their own.
Ingredients
- 3 oz Central Coast rosé or dry white wine
- 2 oz soda water
- 1/2 oz fresh lemon or strawberry puree
- A few fresh berries or citrus slices
- A sprig of mint or basil
- Ice, to serve
Instructions
- 1
Fill a wine glass with ice and add the wine.
A dry rosé or a crisp white. Nothing oaky or sweet.
- 2
Add the fruit puree, top with soda water, and stir once.
Keep it light and barely sweet. The fruit and the wine carry it; the soda keeps it fizzy.
- 3
Garnish with fresh berries or citrus and a sprig of herb.
Scale to a pitcher for the table and it doubles as a low-proof sangria alternative.
